CDT students present at conference on ecological impacts of offshore wind

22 November 2024

Aura CDT researchers, both past and presented this week at ECOWind and EcoFlow Annual Impact Meeting.

Three CDT researchers with their academic posters

CDT alumnus Jordan Burgess is now a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Hull. She presented some of her work as part of the BOWIE project, highlighting the impacts of substrate-borne vibrations on marine invertebrate species. While with the Aura CDT, Jordan researched the impact of windfarm associated noise on commercially important benthic invertebrates.

Current Cohort 2 researcher, Ellie-Mae Cook also made a presentation on her research into the cumulative and in-combination effects of offshore infrastructure on ecological resources. Both Ellie-Mae and Jordan took part in a panel discussion.

Our Cohort 3 researcher, Enora Lecordier also attended the conference and presented an academic poster on her work to assess the potential for co-location of mussel farms with offshore wind farms.

The 2-day conference brought together experts from various sectors to explore the ecological consequences of rapid and large-scale expansion of offshore wind in UK waters. ECOWind and ECOFlow’s mission is to explore that question for fixed and floating offshore wind respectively, and to provide the evidence needed for better decisions to benefit nature.
