PhD Research:

As the understanding of wind turbine manufacture and operational parameters have increased, so has the total length of the blade and complexity of the internal structures. The aim of this PhD is to investigate and model the interaction of these internal structures with the infusion epoxy and quantify its effects on blade manufacture in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

Background:

I completed my Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate at the University of Hull in June of 2020, where I wrote a dissertation in the implementation and optimisation of an aerodynamics package onto a Formula student Vehicle using both ANSYS and STAR-CCM+ software. Over the summer of 2020 I worked as a research associate at the University of Hull looking into the CFD modelling of wound dressings on a Smith & Nephew project.

Research Interests:

My current research is in computational modelling of fluid dynamics and Multiphysics simulation however I have an interested in multiple numerical modelling techniques. I am also interested in the material science of manufacture and how these techniques can be applied to optimise processes.

Why you applied for the Aura CDT:

I applied for the Aura CDT due to its strong commercial links and industry relevant projects. I also found the collaborative nature of the projects appealing as it not only develops your understanding of an area of research, but also understand the issues faced by the offshore wind industry as a whole and how to communicate and work with different groups and specialisms in a commercial setting.
