Industry Partners

Industry Partners

Our Offshore Wind CDTs are the result of long term and extensive collaboration between the academic and key industry partners. We currently have over 40 industry partners, helping to ensure the training and experience provided in our CDTs addresses the broad range of challenges that the offshore wind industry faces.

The interdisciplinary nature of the OSW industry means that there are a wide range of stakeholders including large and small companies who are active at different stages of OSW farm development. Our industry partners are representative of this range. They are involved in delivering training and offering placements, as well as providing industry supervision, ensuring that students are exposed to current offshore wind issues throughout their time at the CDT.
The Aura CDT’s research themes were originally informed by a series of industry workshops facilitated by Aura. These themes have been regularly reviewed. For the second interation of our Offshore Wind CDT, which will recruit five cohorts from 2024-2028 we have developed new research themes. These will continue to evolve throughout the lifetime of the CDT to ensure they remain aligned to industry priorities.

Some PhD projects are defined in consultation with industry; others directly defined by partner companies. We also offer Industry Partner Scholarships, where the research project is developed in conjunction with the Industry partner, in order to meet a specific challenge facing the offshore wind sector. These funded studentships cover fees and stipend and include a year’s PG-Dip training, taken alongside the other Aura CDT students, followed by 3 years of PhD research supported by the industry partner. We have students who are conducting research with the ORE Catapult, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and HR Wallingford. The research proposal for each project has been developed in conjunction with the industry partner in order to meet a specific challenge facing the offshore wind sector. See Research Projects for more information.
