With our academic partners at the Universities of Durham, Newcastle and Sheffield and over 20 international Industry partners, the Aura CDT forms a community of outstanding researchers. All students will benefit from individual and tailored mentoring support, with appropriate mentors selected from our academic and industrial partners. Combined with excellent facilities across a wide range of disciplines, the Aura CDT provides a stimulating and enriching environment for the training of doctoral researchers.

Applications will open in Autumn 2020 for Cohort 3 who will begin studying in September 2021.  There will be a further two cohorts at the Aura CDT running in subsequent years. All students start with a full-time, 1 year taught Postgraduate Diploma. This will be followed by a 3 year PhD with one of the academic institutions, aligned with the Aura industry partners or based at the new £12 million flagship Aura Innovation Centre. Here, you will have access to cutting-edge facilities and research support across the partner academic institutions.
