Project Description:

This Research Project is part of the Aura CDT’s AI-powered Wind Farm Management Cluster.

This Research Project is part of the Aura CDT’s AI-powered Wind Farm Management Cluster.

This project aims to fill a crucial gap in using Reinforcement Learning (RL) for wind turbine control. While RL has shown potential for improving turbine performance, its lack of safety guarantees can lead to operational risks and regulatory concerns. The project focuses on integrating probabilistic safety guarantees into RL-based control by considering uncertainties like wind conditions and turbine health. It plans to achieve this by employing runtime probabilistic model checking to constrain RL exploration within safe boundaries. This innovation aims to ensure safer turbine operations, enhance reliability, and promote the sustainable use of wind energy systems.
