Joshua Prowse

Background:

I graduated from Durham University in 2025 with an integrated master’s in electrical engineering. Projects I worked on include examining the feasibility of a wind and BESS based microgrid for use by private businesses to power their operations and designing a mobile solar panel recycling unit. In 2023, I undertook an internship with ARUP where I looked at low-grade heat networks with their data centre team.

Research Interests:

My assistant supervisor has been an industry leader in studying wind turbine wakes; I’m interested in taking the latest developments in deep learning and applying it to his research to drastically improve wind turbine control options and increase wind farm efficiency.

Why I applied for the Aura CDT:

I applied to the Aura CDT as it exposes me to various aspects of the offshore wind industry that I never interacted with as part of my engineering degree. Meaning, during my research, I can better design choices for all stakeholders rather than just the specific bubble I work in. It also gives me the opportunity to meet and work with other researchers passionate about climate change and the environment from various disciplines, opening myself to new ways of thinking and methods of working.

My PhD research: Optimisation of wind farms power production using AI
