Lisa Somerville, an Aura CDT PhD researcher working in partnership with Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, is putting out a call for research participants.

“My name is Lisa Somerville and I am looking for volunteers that are willing to participate in a study which will be using Virtual Reality (VR) and a motion simulator to evaluate the impact of motion travel on cognitive ability. The intention of this research is to better understand how mild motion sickness might impact thinking and abilities when completing work like tasks, in order to inform the offshore renewable energy industry.

Each participant will be required to attend two lab sessions which will last between 1hr-1hr20mins and will be remunerated a total of £36 in amazon vouchers. £12 on completion of the first session and £24 on completion of the second session.

If interested, please read the participant information sheet, participant privacy notice and contact me at L.M.somerville-2019@hull.ac.uk

Thank you for your contribution to science.”

Lisa Somerville is a Cohort 2 Aura CDT student, based at the University of Hull and working under the supervision of Dr Peter Robinson (Computer Science), Professor Fiona Earle (Psychology), and Dr David Smith (Programme Director for Psychology).

Offshore wind farm development is expanding into ever-deeper waters, so technicians are facing longer boat journeys to reach turbines, in order to carry out essential maintenance tasks. Lisa’s PhD research directly addresses sector needs to understand motion sickness effects on offshore technicians.
